Rose-Ann Smith

Dr. Rose-Ann Smith is a lecturer at the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Jamaica where she lectures in several courses including Disaster Risk Management. She holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in Geography from the University of the West Indies Mona campus. Her research broad interests include Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Sustainable Livelihoods. She has published several articles, book chapters, and technical reports in relation to her research interests.

Dr. Smith is a stalwart advocate for the mainstreaming of disaster risk management into schools’ curricula and has recently published a children’s picture book, “The Day I Became a Hurricane '' to enlighten children at the primary school level on hurricane formation, development, and preparedness. She is also a consultant in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.

While most of these consultancies have occurred mainly in the Caribbean, several have been funded by international organizations including the World Bank and The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
